Topps Chrome Boxing Set Review 2024

Published Date: 11th April 2026

Welcome to the Gardiner Sports Cards Topps Chrome Boxing Set Review 2024. Boxing cards are back under the Topps banner for the first time since the early 1950s, and the return arrives in the form of 2024 Topps Chrome Boxing. Chrome has long been Topps’ flagship brand across football, baseball, and UFC, so the decision to bring it into the ring feels natural. The question is: does it deliver?

First Impressions of Topps Chrome Boxing 2024

Opening a box, the product feels premium from the start as it does with most Topps Chrome sets that are released. Packs are glossy, the cards carry the familiar Chrome shine, and the photography has a strong mix of action shots and posed images. Collectors will notice right away that this isn’t just a nostalgic nod, it’s a modern attempt to establish boxing as a serious part of the Topps line up. I hope we see much more of this in the future for Boxing fans as this is a seriously untapped market.

The Checklist – Does It Land A Punch?

At just 100 cards, the checklist is lean and accessible. It covers a spread of retired legends, current champions, and up-and-coming prospects. However, many of boxing’s biggest global stars are missing, which is a serious drawback for a set trying to reintroduce the sport to collectors. Stars like Oleksandr Usyk, Daniel Dubois, Anthony Joshua, Terrence Crawford Jr, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez do not feature and I feel this is a big fumble from Topps. I’m not sure if this is a licensing issue but there is definite room for improvement in the checklist.

On the flipside, a more eyebrow raising is the inclusion of Jake Paul. But… love him or hate him, Paul is more of a social media attraction than a legitimate boxer, and his presence in the product feels gimmicky. For collectors hoping for a serious representation of the sport, that decision borders on laughable considering the omissions elsewhere.

Inserts and Autographs

The inserts add a bit of flair, even if they’re fairly safe in concept:

  • Be First: bold and aggressive, echoing fast starters.
  • 1951 Ringside: the standout insert, honouring Topps’ historic Ringside release with a modern Chrome twist.
  • Ring Generals: stylish cards celebrating those who control the action in the ring.

Autographs are the main chase, and there’s good variety across champions and prospects. Chrome stock does justice to signatures, though again the absence of household boxing names limits the overall pull.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

  • Boxing’s long-awaited return to the Topps portfolio
  • Premium feel with strong design and Chrome quality
  • Inserts that offer both modern and heritage appeal

Weaknesses

  • Notable absences of many elite fighters
  • Checklist undermined by gimmicky inclusions like Jake Paul
  • Limited innovation in insert design

Price

The box comes in at a RRP of £80 here in the UK. Now when matching it up against other Topps Chrome sets like UEFA Club Competitions and Formula 1, this comes in substantially cheaper. I’m not sure if this was a tactic to get people interested in the Boxing cards again or as a compromise for the lacklustre checklist. But either way, this is a serious W for Topps and long may this sort of pricing for premium sets continue.

Verdict

Thanks for reading this Topps Chrome Boxing Set Review 2024. Topps Chrome Boxing is a strong looking product that gives the hobby a very much needed boxing release. It looks and feels premium, and the nostalgic touches like 1951 Ringside give it collector appeal. But the checklist sort of holds it back. By leaving out many of the sport’s biggest stars while slotting in novelty names, the set risks alienating boxing purists. If you want to track the 1/1s in the Topps Chrome Boxing 2024 collection then you can do using our very own specialist tracker. Helping you to work out the big chase cards still out there.

Score: 6.5/10 – A glossy return with promise at a great price, but weighed down by a questionable checklist.
